L.A. Guns

I know the main musical goal of this site is to report on indie rock and punk bands, but I will totally admit it: I love the 1980’s Sunset Strip rock/metal scene. My favorite band is Guns N’ Roses and the second concert I ever saw was Poison at the Lacrosse Center in Wisconsin. I totally dig Mötley Crüe and I think Decline of Western Civilation Pt. II: The Metal Years is an awesome movie. I also think L.A. Guns put out two really kick ass records. 1988’s L.A. Guns and 1989’s Cocked & Loaded were everything that the 80’s L.A. hard rock scene were about. Sleazy songs about sex and drugs with a couple ballads thrown in to keep the girls interested. Totally badass.

Cut to nearly 20 years later and we have two versions of L.A. Guns presently touring. One featuring founding guitarist Tracii Guns and original singer Paul Black and then the other which features the more well known singer Phil Lewis and drummer Steve Riley. Both incarnations are playing the metro area in the coming months, so you can take your pick which version of the band you would prefer to see.

I would get into the whole reasoning behind the separate lineups, but… c’mon… who really gives a fuck?
