There’s been a geek internet uproar over the past few months concerning the Weinstein Co.’s release of Fanboys, which follows a group of friends attempting to break into Skywalker Ranch to steal a print of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace before the movie was released.

The problem was that in the original film, this was done so one of the friends could see it before he was probably going to die, as he had cancer. The Weinsteins, however, thought this would bring the movie down, so they cut everything having to do with it. Fans of the original version responded in droves, even threatening to boycott the upcoming release of the company’s Superhero Movie.

And lo and behold, they won. Kind of. The Weinsteins just announced they’re releasing both the Cancer and No Cancer versions on DVD and are “exploring options” concerning the theatrical release, which now means they’ll probably just bury it in spite.
