In case you haven’t heard . . . graphic artist Yoshitoshi ABe is finally returning to anime soon with Despera, alongside director Ryūtarō Nakamura and screenwriter Chiaki J. Konaka. All three previously worked together on Serial Experiments Lain, one of the greatest and most mind-boggling anime ever devised.
The story centers around a 14 year old girl named Ain, who often builds devices despite the lack of scientific background for them. The sci-fi alternative period story is set in Tokyo during the Taishō era in 1922, one year before the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake.
Why should you be excited? Because everything ABe touches is gold. Beautiful, animated gold.
