Seeking Wellness at the Parkway Theater
posted by The Joe
In the final week of their inaugural set, the Home Grown Cinema Series and the Parkway Theater proudly present a one-time only sneak preview of Daniel Schneidkraut’s Seeking Wellness: Suffering Through Four Movements. The film is made up of four loosely-connected shorts, and this will be the first (and presumably last) time they’ll screen together in the Twin Cities.
Seeking Wellness Part One: Cup of Friendship, Shrine of Scars tells the heroic story of a group of burn survivors during their first painful steps towards recovery. Winner of ‘Most Disturbing Film’ at the 2007 Seattle True Independent Film Festival and the ‘Experimentation in Film’ award at the 2007 Sydney Underground Film Festival.
Seeking Wellness Part Two: Daddy’s Time is the story of how a divorced father tries desperately to develop an emotional connection with his children during the Christmas holiday and fails. Winner of the ‘Boundary-Breaking Best Short Film’ at the 2007 Sydney Underground Film Festival and the ‘Audience Award’ at the 2007 Filmstock International Film Festival, and was also in the Official Selection at the 2007 Cannes Short Film Corner.
Seeking Wellness Part Three: Malignant Love is a documentary about Patient 12 and his quest to reunite with a woman who has broken his heart. Officially selected into the 2008 International Film Festival England, showing June 10.
Seeking Wellness Part Four: Final Project is a precise and protracted classroom drama with a spectacular conclusion. Officially selected into the 2008 International Film Festival England, showing June 10.
Seeking Wellness is disturbing, provocative, and absolutely nothing like what you’ve ever seen before. If there’s one low-budget independent film to see all year, this is it.

Afterwards, stick around to see Wargoon Flishe, an experimental animated feature film directed by John Akre that’s part of this double feature night. The film plays at 9:30 PM, and is included in the one-time $8 ticket price. So stay after Seeking Wellness, or show up just for this.
Wargoon Flishe is a hero out of ancient myths, but one slightly updated to this age of commerce and mass media. He rises to greatness by virtue of cannibalism and arrogance. His story is a movie like a cave painting drawn on magazine advertising.
