RIP Cinema Revolution?
posted by Mojo Marshall
I had heard the rumor a few weeks ago that Cinema Revolution might be shutting down. Sadly the newest email from their mailing list partially confirms this. Here is a re-post of that letter in its entirety.
……….
2431 Lyndale Ave Store Closing
I’m sorry to report that the Cinema Revolution store at 2431 Lyndale will be closing at the end of the day Wednesday 4/29/09. We just learned today that our landlord is asking us to vacate due to inconsistent rent payments, which have been caused by a recent sharp downturn in revenue.
Anyone who has unused Inner Circle credits, gift cards and/or coupons should try to use them before 4/29/09.
In these last few weeks at this location, we hope you will take full advantage of the store and our new low prices, and rent as many movies as possible.
The Cinema Revolution Society is Born
THIS IS NOT THE END, however, just the beginning of a new phase.
Firstly, we are still working on moving the store to a new venue, but even in the best case scenario there will be some down time.
Secondly, Cinema Revolution is also in the process of creating a non-profit that will carry on its mission of promoting film as art in the Twin Cities. The new organization will be called the Cinema Revolution Society, and will focus on three pursuits all relating to bringing people together through film:
1) Facilitating film screenings by diverse independent promoters
2) Holding lecture and discussion series at venues around town
3) Inspiring/commissioning new films by local filmmakers and helping them get their work screened in public.
This idea is in its beginning stages, and there is a lot to be done to make this transition. Anyone who wants to be a part of this new organization in any way should email john@cinemarevolution.com.
