Live Nation Acquires the Myth Nightclub
posted by Mojo Marshall
Live Nation, formerly Clear Channel, is making some big moves this spring. First signing Jay-Z after already signing Madonna and U2 to similar long-term, multi-million dollar package deals. Then I read here on NME they’ve taken over Scotland’s biggest outdoor festival, T in the Park.
I read an article yesterday by Chris Riemenschneider of the Star Tribune talking about the Live Nation Nokia Ticket Rush scam. On the bottom of the piece was a comment left by someone named Cody, “How about the fact that Live Nation just struck a partnership/ownership deal with Myth?”
I’ve done some digging and it appears this is true. Jam Productions, who books and promotes Minneapolis shows, but is based out of Chicago, is handling the M.I.A. and Kraftwerk concerts in other cities BUT Minneapolis. It looks like they got scooped by Live Nation. The same goes for Mr. Chan Presents, a Minneapolis based booking company that has done the Rancid shows in the past, but lost out this go-around to the Myth Nightclub.
I don’t think these companies will have a partnership with the Myth in the future once their current engagements are through. What does this mean for the local scene in the Twin Cities? Simply, not good.
I personally don’t go to shows at the Myth for the mere fact I can’t ride my bike from Uptown, Minneapolis to Maplewood. Will you still be going?
