Hip-Hop Production Night Descends on Minneapolis

Every third Thursday in Minneapolis, Kevin Beacham (aka DJ Nikoless of Rhymesayers Entertainment, and 89.3: The Current’s Redefinition Radio) and Brandon Allday (one half of Minneapolis hip-hoppers, Big Quarters) put on a night showcasing producers called Last of the Record Buyers. The event takes place at local nightspot, The Dinkytowner.

The event gives up-and-coming producers a chance to shine a spotlight on their work along with an already established producer (past performers include P.O.S. and Benzilla). The focus is on hip-hop for most participants, but just like their’s no rulebook for hip-hop production, there’s also nothing that restricts performers to just that genre.

Ever wonder how people chop up samples? Curious what tools you need to get yourself started? Got a golden throat and no canvas to spit your fire? Well, this is your night!

So check it out. Things kick off with a DJ set courtesy of DJ Nikoless, then it rolls into the mass of talented, underappreciated producers and then right on to the featured producer. Even if you’re not going there looking to collaborate, there’s a wealth of fresh, bangin’ hip-hop just begging to be heard.
