Drunken Post: Favorite Albums of the Decade
posted by Richard Gill
Drunken Post is a feature on Switchblade Comb wherein The Joe and RichmanVA get wasted and post nonsensical / non topical videos or musings at very early hours of the morning.
It’s that time of the year when every website / publication is putting out their “Best of the Decade” lists and Switchblade Comb is no exception.
So, as we bid the nineties a fond adieu, and greet the flying cars, lunch in pill form, and hover boards of the futuristic 2000’s with open arms, I present to you my favorite albums of the last decade.
10. U.S. Bombs – War Birth (1997) – The Highlight of this street punk outfits’ career came just before front man Duane Peters got sober.
9. Strung Out – Twisted By Design (1998) – Who would have thought that combining pop punk and metal could sound so good.
8. Mike Ness – Cheating at Solitaire (1999) – The Social Distortion front man steps away from his punk rock shackles and makes a heartfelt country / roots rock album that even Johnny Cash could appreciate.
7. Jane’s Addiction – Ritual De Lo Habitual (1990) – The beautifully perfect marriage of Motley Crue glam metal and Germs nihilistic punk rock.
6. NoFX – So Long and Thanks For All the Shoes (1997) – This was the point that NoFX began their journey to the top of the punk rock mountain.
5. Descendents – Everything Sucks (1996) – American punk pioneers return after a 9 year hiatus with the best pop punk album of the decade.
4. Jawbreaker – Dear You (1995) – The death of emo? Maybe. But also its pinnacle.
3. Rancid – Life Won’t Wait (1998) – Our generation’s Clash makes our generation’s London Calling.
2. Fifteen – Choice of a New Generation (1993) – Bay area punks really hit their stride with this punk rock masterpiece that was as political as it was heart on you sleeve emotional.
1. Guns N’ Roses – Use Your Illusion I & II (1991) – Could any other album really be at the top of this list?
Special Mention: Butt Trumpet – Primitive Enema (1994) – The first “new school” punk band I really liked. Bought the album based solely on the band name and still rock it to this day.
