Black Friday at the Record Store

posted by MP Johnson

Yes, I go shopping on Black Friday. I don’t go to Crap-Mart or whatever though. I go to one or more of the Twin Cities awesome independent record stores (Electric Fetus, Treehouse, Extreme Noise, etc.) to buy limited edition records brought to you by the same people who do Record Store Day every year. Here’s my shopping list:

Fear – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas 7″

I don’t know if they’re going to play it straight like Lee Ving does in the video above, or they’re going to Fear it up. Either way, I’m in.

Craig Finn – Honolulu Blues/Rented Room 7″

I don’t know how many of these are being pressed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the first one to sell out. You know why.

Jimmy Cliff – Sacred Fire 12″ EP

Tim Armstrong pitched in on this one. I’m particularly psyched to hear the reggae legend’s take on Rancid’s “Ruby Soho.”

Misfits – Devil’s Rain LP

The vinyl version of the most ridiculous album of the year. Seriously, this is so ridiculous that there are no words for it. It’s unexplained.

Mr. Gasser and the Weirdoes – Three LPs

Ed “Big Daddy” Roth and band making fun surf rock ‘n’ roll about his Rat Fink characters.

For the full list of releases  you can only find at local indie record stores, go to the Record Store Day website.
