Abraham Lincoln Biopic from Spielberg

A friend of mine, John, and I were talking at work the other day about how wild it must have been in Lincoln’s time to speak in front of a congress that were all packing heat. We concurred that with Lincoln’s tall frame he could throw down like a champ if things got crazy. We also agreed that somebody needs to make a feature film about the coolest US President ever, Abraham Lincoln. Apparently Steven Spielberg has been kicking around the idea for years. According to Variety the project has gotten a breath of fresh air.
The director, out promoting “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” has told the German weekly magazine FOCUS that he will return his attention to an epic project about the 16th president, for a DreamWorks film that could begin filming possibly by early next year.
Spielberg will first shoot Tintin this fall. He has put The Trial of the Chicago Seven on the backburner.
Liam Neeson is set to star as Lincoln. Tony Kushner (Munich, Angels in America) has written the script based off of Goodwin’s book The Uniter: The Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
