From the Shrubbers to the Modern Machines to the Used Kids and probably some in between, I’ve been seeing Nato’s bands live for more than a decade. In the past, I’ve shrugged them off as solid opening acts at best, annoyances at worst.
Enter the Blue Diamond Band. I now realize that I’ve been a dick, and that bands with heart-on-sleeves sincerity and boundless energy and fucking fantastic storytelling really shouldn’t be taken for granted, no matter how many times you see them listed as an opening act at a show you’re going to. The other thing that I learned at their show at the Hexagon last Friday is that the Blue Diamond Band is no mere opening act, but also a first-class headliner who alone are worth the trip out.
Check out “Julie” above and go see the band, or even Nato as a solo act, whenever you’re in the mood to rock out with a smile on your face.
