Looks like the sequel to the rather effective Spanish horror film [REC] (remade in America as Quarantine) is yet another Twin Cities premiere coming to the Uptown Theatre’s midnight film series.

It has been just 15 minutes after authorities lost contact with the people locked in the building under quarantine. Nobody knows what happens inside. A SWAT unit enters the interior of the house to monitor the situation and determine what is happening.

The newest gross-out shock film sensation, Tom Six’s Human Centipede, is premiering in the Twin Cities as part of the Uptown Theatre’s midnight film series.

Internationally respected Siamese twin surgeon Dr. Josef Heiter wants to remove human beings’ kneecaps so they have to exist on all fours and then surgically graft them mouth-to-anus to form a centipede chain. When two stranded female Americans arrive at his luxury home-cum-hospital looking for help, his long-gestating plan swiftly moves into chilling action.

In conjunction with their new issue launch, Quodlibetica is hosting two screenings of my favorite Orson Welles film, F For Fake, at the Trylon Microcinema. Not only is it one of the greatest documentaries ever made, it has a 9-minute short film for a trailer.

Orson Welles’ free-form documentary about fakery focuses on the notorious art forger Elmyr de Hory and Elmyr’s biographer, Clifford Irving, who also wrote the celebrated fraudulent Howard Hughes autobiography, then touches on the reclusive Hughes and Welles’ own career (which started with a faked resume and a phony Martian invasion). On the way, Welles plays a few tricks of his own on the audience.

Television’s greatest show has almost returned. Season 8 will air Wednesday nights on the Discovery Channel.

Mythbusters is Awesome

Everyone loves the crap out of George R. R. Martin’s political fantasy epic A Game of Thrones, and HBO just announced that they’re officially picking up the series. The ten-episode first season will star the likes of Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage and will be directed (the pilot, at least) by Tom McCarthy.

Look for it next spring.

Luck, the HBO collaboration between David Milch and Michael Mann, has announced its main cast, and it includes Dustin Hoffman as an ex-con gambler, Dennis Farina as Hoffman’s driver, and John Ortiz as a Peruvian trainer.

UPDATE: Nick Nolte just signed on. Awesome.

In case you’ve forgotten, Luck is centered on the world of horse-racing, and should air on HBO around January.

Our friends at Sound Unseen are throwing a party for the premier of the great looking White Stripes concert film, Under Great White Norhern Lights, this Wednesday at The Trylon Cinema. Tickets for the Wednesday screenings are sold out but that doesn’t mean you still can’t come out and watch Gay Witch Abortion blow your faces off.

Plus, they just announced two additional screenings on Thursday, March 4 so if you weren’t able to score tickets before I suggest you get off your ass and do it now.
