Sound Unseen’s April film at the Trylon Microcinema will be the 1979 Neil Young documentary Rust Never Sleeps.
“More to the picture than meets the eye… Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die.” A documentary film covering Neil Young’s October 22nd, 1978 concert performance at the Cow Palace, Rust Never Sleeps showcases his work from 1967 – 1979.

Rust Never Sleeps – “Like a Hurricane”
The Cinema Revolution Society is having an open filmmaker call for the Minneapolis Project, consisting of numerous short films that will form a cinematic portrait of the city. The Uptown, Downtown, and Northeast arts district are already commissioned, but there’s plenty of other local areas to still choose from.
Films must be under 5 minutes in length and not be documentaries, so I guess this is going the NY, I Love You route. The entry fee for the project is $20 and there will be an Audience Award cash prize of $300 when the finished product screens at the Riverview Theatre in mid-September.

Yup, someone went and did it, and the Mounds Theatre will preview the film with the director and lead actor in attendance.

Corey Haim, a 1980s teen heartthrob for his roles in “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys” whose career was blighted by drug abuse, has died. He was 38.
The Toronto-born actor died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at a Burbank hospital, Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said.
There will be no shortage of jokes about Haim’s death and about him being a washed up drug addict but keep in mind that the kid was once a great actor. He and Corey Feldman pretty much owned the eighties for a period of time teaming up in six movies over an eight year period. To this day I can say with not one ounce of irony that License to Drive is one of my favorite movies.
On another note what’s going on with all these actors / musicians dying of drug related causes at such a young age lately? Brittany Murphy, DJ AM, Chris Feinstein, Heath Ledger, when will it stop?

We here at Switchblade Comb are big fans of the entire Comedians of Comedy crew, one of them being Maria Bamford. And hey, this was filmed in our city!
Filmed live at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, Maria Bamford takes on the story of her own Hollywood life, viewed from the much safer and possibly much weirder climes of Duluth, MN. Playing all of the characters, from her parents to her high school nemesis-cum-Target checkout girl, Bamford lovingly skewers her origins, reminding us that, while there may be no place like home, there’s really no place like home.

Gold Diggers of 1933 is pre-code cinema at it’s best, with lots of sexy dialogue and plenty of innuendo. Throw in BUSBY BERKELEY’S kaleidoscope choreography, a great Warren and Dubin score, and a socially realist plot that is as contemporary today as it was in 1933 and you get one great movie!
Love Me or Leave Me

It’s a Doris Day Birthday celebration! Doris Day portrays singing great Ruth Etting in Love Me or Leave Me, which costars the great James Cagney. The film tells the story of Etting’s rise to fame in the 1920s and her association and marriage to Marty “The Gimp” Snyder, a Chicago gangster. This CINEMASCOPE and EASTMANCOLOR classic features Doris singing 18 great roaring 20’s standards, including MEAN TO ME, TEN CENTS A DANCE and of course LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME.
Love Me or Leave Me – Trailer
As if this movie couldn’t get any more anticipated . . .
Tran Anh Hung’s Norwegian Wood, based on the excellent Haruki Murakami novel and starring Rinko Kikuchi, is now set to be scored by Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood, who some might remember also providing one of the greatest modern movie scores in There Will Be Blood.
The pieces will be based on “Dogwood,” which Greenwood wrote for the BBC Concert Orchestra. This will play on BBC Radio 3 on Friday, March 19 at 2:00 PM.
Interesting side-note: in Tran Anh Hung’s best film Cyclo, he used Radiohead’s “Creep” to its greatest potential. Except for THIS, I guess.
