In 1991, Norwegian churches started to burn down, just after an underground circle of metal musicians had formed. The film reveals the true story behind the music, murders, and church burnings, and shows what happened to these young men, who tried to change the world using music, art, and violence. Ultimately, they lost control of what they had created.

I hesitated posting about this, not initially curious, but I’ve heard good things and it reminds me a bit of my favorite film of the year, Helen.

Robert is a young American student at an elite East Coast preparatory school who accidentally captures on camera the tragic death of two classmates. Their lives become memorialized as part of an audio-visual assignment designed to speed up the campus-wide healing process. But the video memorial assignment results in an atmosphere of paranoia and unease among students and teachers.

I’m a little biased when it comes to Soderbergh.

Chelsea, a $2000-an-hour Manhattan call girl, offers more than sex to her clients; it’s her companionship and conversation that provides her customers with the complete girlfriend experience. Chelsea thinks she has her life totally under control, but when you’re in the business of meeting people, control can be easily manipulated.

Drunken Post is a feature on Switchblade Comb wherein The Joe and RichmanVA get wasted and post nonsensical / non topical videos or musings at very early hours of the morning.

So it’s a bitter night, sirs and madames, being the last night of the Uptown Bar’s Record Party. And I feel it’s necessary to post something, anything, for the loss of the lil bar folk society that I came to care so much for.

However, being drunk, whatever I could try to convey would fall flat on its face, so instead I post the only clip of the only film of the past few years that has moved me to the point that this gathering made me feel every single week.

Corny? Yes indeedy, world of the interwebs. But this is the upside to running a blog – being honest with nobody able to stop you.

Farewell, atmosphere. Farewell, friend.

I’m not usually a fan of modern indie romance, but the great music and b/w photography have my hopes up.

First-time director Damien Chazelle infuses his black-and-white, 16mm verite-style relationship drama with all that jazzy romance of an old-Hollywood musical. Backed by a grand, alternately rollicking and melancholy score, Guy and Madeline tracks a pair of young lovers in Boston after they separate, search for new romance, and perhaps find their way back to each other.

Cinema Revolution DVD rental has closed and will be holding a liquidation sale of its entire inventory of foreign, independent, documentary, cult and classic movies on October 3 and 4, during the Sound Unseen festival. The store is selling all 2,500 DVDs. There will be lots of great deals on TVs, DVD players, monitors, and other store fixtures.

The sale will be held at 3260 Minnehaha Ave. in Minneapolis (next to the Trylon Microcinema) and will run from 9-6 on Saturday and 12-6 on Sunday.

There will be a $5 admission on Saturday only and Sunday is free, and all sales will be cash only.
