The Hold Steady’s new live album/DVD A Positive Rage hits stores on Tuesday, April 7. There will be a free screening at the Entry the night before. Film starts at 9 PM.
Much like the Dillinger 4 situation earlier this year, it looks like the new Green Day album has leaked via an online review stream. This is sure to be the album of the year. It’s a logical next step from their last album, the excellent American Idiot, but it also harkens back to the pop punk early days of Kerplunk!
Unfortunately it’s not broken up into separate tracks but it flows together as one piece so it’s worth sitting through the entire thing.
The site I got it off of already took it off their servers so we’re gonna put it up on ours for as long as we can. Enjoy!
This summer, the Dark Night of the Soul album will be released, which is a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, with help from Frank Black of the Pixies, Julian Casablancas of the Strokes, Vic Chesnutt, The Flaming Lips, James Mercer of The Shins, Iggy Pop, Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals, Jason Lytle formerly of Grandaddy, Nina Person of the Cardigans and A Camp, and Suzanne Vega.
The Playlist was sent a promo poster for the album recently, which teases ‘visuals by David Lynch.’ I really hope this means music videos. And just putting this detail aside for a moment and taking into account that above name list and the fact that Sparklehorse is amazing, this just suddenly became my most anticipated album of the year.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the most exciting figure in American animated television, is teaming up with Cartoon Network for the new sci-fi series Sym-Bionic Titan.
The show focuses on three extraterrestrials from the war-torn planet Galaluna who crash-land, only to be swept up in high school and the fate of the Earth as we know it.
Tartakovsky has previously worked with Cartoon Network on Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and the original Star Wars: Clone Wars series, and is slated to direct the Dark Crystal sequel.
Their newest record took a few listens, but it’s really starting to grow on me. “From the Hips” is one of the standout tracks. It reminds me of an older time when I was obsessed with the band.
I was just recently pointed towards this fantastic band by our buddy Andrew. Formed in 1995, Number Girl has been a highly influential force in indie Japanese rock, and they feature one of the greatest drummers of the modern rock era, Inazawa Ahito, who’s so bad-ass that during the band’s first show in Tokyo, he had a high fever and performed the entire show while hooked up to an IV.
After disbanding in 2002 following bassist Nakao Kentarou’s departure, the members went on to form bands such as Zazen Boys, Vola and the Oriental Machine, toddle, and Sloth Love Chunks.
While most of their videos are strange and feature recurringcharacters, their live performances are what’s really worth watching.
