Radiohead - “All I Need”

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Hollywood Reporter:
Under the music broadcaster’s EXIT (end exploitation and trafficking) campaign, MTV and Radiohead have jointly produced a video for the “In Rainbows” track “All I Need”…

Yorke said the band linked with MTV to highlight such issues as child slavery, enforced servitude and sex trafficking because it was “about exploiting a situation while you have the chance.”

“All power to MTV for taking this on because its obviously going to be difficult for them in terms of the advertisers,” he said. “With the (’All I Need’) video, their lawyers had to beg to make sure there wasn’t a single white trainer with a logo on it because the implication would be a little too close. But the implication is still there.”

Patton Oswalt on Reno 911!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Comedy Central has posted a clip of an upcoming Reno 911! episode featuring the funniest comedian working today, Patton Oswalt. The best part of this is that Patton is basically playing himself and as Videogum said, seems genuinely angry.

What We Do is Secret - Trailer

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Is there any possible way that this film is not gonna suck? My guess would be no. However, casting The Bronx as Black Flag was a pretty good move.

Neil Hennessy Joins Smoking Popes

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Neil

Neil Hennessy is quickly becoming the Aaron Cometbus of Chicago by joining yet another band. The reunited Smoking Popes have announced that Hennessy will be “hitting the skins” (sorry, couldn’t help myself) for them on their upcoming tour. Said the band: “We’ve been playing together for the past couple of weeks gearing up for a summer of rock. First up, a record release show for “Stay Down” at Metro on June 7th, then the album will hit stores on June 17th. After the album is out, we’re planning on hitting the road. The plans are coming together at the moment and we’ll keep you posted…”

As Punknews.org pointed out: “Neil has performed in The Lawrence Arms, The Falcon, Baxter, The Killing Tree and also co-wrote the Rise Against hit, “Swing Life Away.” They forgot to mention that he also played in Colossal and Sundowner.

Speaking of that Smoking Popes tour, here are the details for the Minneapolis date.

DVD TUESDAY - Karaoke Terror

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

karaoke terror

From writer Ryu Murakami (Audition) comes the satirical tale of two groups of outsiders who make war on each other, set to a soundtrack of retro karaoke hits. A gang of young slacker guys (the Gakis) idle away their time just hanging out, their sole passion in life being elaborate karaoke recreations of their favorite Showa-era songs (oldies from the 40s to the 80s). Across town, a group of thirty-something divorced women calling themselves the Midoris do much the same thing, until one of the Gakis kills a Midori after he’s rejected trying to pick her up. The Midoris retaliate, and the absurdist battle of revenge is on.

OTHER NOTABLE RELEASES:

- The so-so 2001 Godzilla feature All Monsters Attack
- The strange, sleazy, sci-fi alien bestiality film Beast In Space
- Criterion’s children’s classics releases of Paddle to the Sea, The Red Balloon, and White Mane
- 2007’s acclaimed The Diving Bell & the Butterfly
- The Guatemalan Handshake featuring Will Oldham
- Lucio Fulci’s giallo classic The New York Ripper
- Katsuhito Ishii’s hilariously zany Party 7

Fall Out Boy - “Beat It”

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Unfortunately, Fall Out Boy has posted a rather decent video for their cover of the Michael Jackson classic “Beat It”. This is mostly due to the fact that it features cameos from the creepy guy in Grandma’s Boy, Hal Sparks, and the always hilarious Buster Bluth. Those three save the video from Patrick Stump’s awful dancing. Hey Patrick, this guy is a way better dancer than you.

Also, fuck you for making me post a Fall Out Boy video.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention this. Although he does not appear in the video, John Mayer plays the bad ass guitar solo at the end of the song.
