In celebration of Christopher Walken turning 65 today, let us all enjoy a nice bed time story with him.

MxPx will be headlining a punk rock festival at Nemzek Field in Moorhead, MN on April 29. Appearing with them will be Bouncing Souls, The Casualties, Gaslight Anthem, and The Krum Bums as well as local artists SubCity Dwellers, Midnight Suit, Any Day, Camera Can’t Lie, Write This Down, Giants of Silence, and Fat Louie.
Granted, all these bands are playing Minneapolis around this date but this looks like a really fun show for the upper northern area of Minnesota. Kudos to the person or people that are booking shows at the U of M Moorhead campus.

Son of Rambow - Trailer

Nothing to do with music or movie news, but screw it - Ric Flair has just retired from professional wrestling, upon losing his match at Wrestlemania XXIV against Shawn Michaels.
Flair does so after 35 years in the sports entertainment business and with an unprecedented 16 world title runs under his belt throughout the organizations of NWA, WCW, and WWE.
Quite simply, he was the best.
RichmanVA: Just to add my two cents, the first great wrestling match I ever saw was Ric Flair VS. Ricky Steamboat at Clash of the Champions VI in 1989. Steamboat beat Flair in a 2 out of 3 falls match that lasted the entire 60 minute time limit and it is still probably my favorite match of all time. I agree with The Joe. He was, quite simply, the best. WOOOO!!!!!!
Ric Flair - The Man
The Opera House. Toronto, Canada. March 8, 2008.
KRS-One during his set begins to freestyle over the infamous Wu-Tang Clan banger “C.R.E.A.M.” until RZA himself who was in the crowd joins KRS-One onstage. The two respected emcees then rap together as the crowd goes apeshit! One of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile.
Don’t forget that KRS-One will be in Minneapolis on April 11 at Trocaderos along with Kanser and Muja Messiah.

Langhorne Slim will be out on tour in support of his new self-titled record due in stores April 29.

Burleque of North America, the local design firm behind a plethora of awesome hip-hop and indie posters including the last few Arcade Fire tour posters is having a party tonight.

Starting Thursday, April 10, Jazz88 FM is launching the Reel Jazz Film Series at Minneapolis’ Bryant Lake Bowl’s Cabaret Theater. The series is a monthly event which will showcase independent jazz films with high school jazz quartets in the 30-minute pre-film set.
Tickets for the evenings are $10. Doors open at 6 PM, with the jazz quartets starting at 6:30 PM and the films starting at 7 PM. To reserve your tickets for the April 10th screening, e-mail Kevin Barnes at KevinB@Jazz88fm.com or call Kevin at 612.668.1735.
04.10 - ‘Tis Autumn: The Search For Jackie Paris
Using new and archival performance footage, found footage, still photography, historical audio clips and rare unreleased recordings, Oscar-nominated director Raymond De Felitta (Bronx Cheers, Two Family House, The Thing About My Folks) brings us an intimate portrait of this ground-breaking jazz vocalist’s life, his work with Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Lionel Hampton, and others plus his renown for his rendition of “Skylark”.
05.09 - New Orleans Music In Exile
Since hurricane Katrina struck, musicians who made a living performing and recording in New Orleans have kept on playing music elsewhere - much of it devoted to their beleaguered city. This film presents personal stories of horror and heartbreak from musicians who lived through the storm that wreaked havoc on the Big Easy. Featuring interviews and performances with Theresa Andersson, Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Irma Thomas, Stephen Assaf, Eddie Bo, Marcia Ball, Kermit Ruffins, ReBirth Brass Band, The Iguanas, World Leader Pretend, Cowboy Mouth, beatinpath, Jon Cleary, and Papa Grows Funk.
06.12 - Imagine the Sound
This film profiles four musicians who were influential in the evolution of jazz into a free-form musical art: Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon, and Paul Bley. Canadian documentary filmmaker Ron Mann’s first feature documentary, made when he was only 22 years old. Considered to be by many critics as one of the all-time great jazz films, “Imagine The Sound” is newly restored and presented on HD and 5.1 stereo sound.
It truly has been too long since we’ve talked. What have we been up to? Glad you asked. A “shit ton,” would be the short answer but we can give a little more detail than that. In fact, here’s a lot more detail:
In a bittersweet twist, we here at TPC Enterprises® are both excited and admittedly a little sad to announce that our upcoming release show for “We Appreciate You” on April 19th at First Avenue is going to be our last show before we embark on what we’re calling—for lack of a better term—an indefinite hiatus.
We’ve had an amazing 12.5 year ride since we started in suburban basements in 1995. We’ve seen some truly incredible things (Niagra Falls, Golden Gate Bridge, East St. Louis, Joel Anderson’s bedroom), fought some metaphorical and actual real-life dragons, driven across the country three times over, suckered the Canadian border patrol and, most importantly, we’ve met some beautiful and hilarious (and usually somewhat intoxicated) people—many of whom we’re still lucky enough to describe as “family” with total sincerity.
So what are we doing to celebrate this forthcoming explosion of inactivity? Releasing an album and throwing a huge party of course!
Our new album, “We Appreciate You” is gonna be dropped on April 15th by our buddies in NYC, Frenchkiss Records. It’s 11 hot tracks of penultimate TPC jams and we’re absolutely stoked with how it turned out. Big-ups to Joe Mabbott for once again making us sound somewhat professional. The record will be available at fine independent retailers as well as in the usual iTunes scene. The artwork turned out awesomely thanks to everyone’s photo contributions, some of which you can see incorporated into our new website by our web guru, Alison. The CD itself features an extensive pullout section with even MORE people drawn together.
……….

Expect a lot of special stuff to go down, folks. We’ll be doing a little more than the standard “here’s a few songs from our new album” approach.
Afterparty at your mom’s house.
………
We’ll be in touch again soon, before the shows, to check in.
Love and History,
TPC

Mojo: Introducing our newest writer to the Switchblade Comb staff, Kat! (She may go by a different name next time she posts.) We’ll let you know more about our talented friend later this week after she gets her sealegs on the site. We thought it appropriate she talk about this primarily all-female tour being the first female voice on our site. Now on to the story…
