L.A. based X will be returning to the road this March for a tour of unspecified length. No shows have been formally announced by the band yet but due to the wonders of the internet we know one date for sure.
MARCH 22, 2008
MINNEAPOLIS, MN THE CABOOZE
21+ (sorry kiddies)
Watch this video and try to tell me that Billy Zoom is not the coolest looking guitarist ever.
X - Johnny Hit and Run Pauline (from “The Unheard Music” DVD)
Unofficial video directed by (Pharrell’s ex-girlfriend) Va$htie. The Child Rebel Soldier single “Us Placers,” which samples Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser,” first appeared on Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing Mixtape.
The video features uncanny adolescent versions of Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Thom Yorke, deftly done on a small budget.
From XXLmag.com: After months of speculation surrounding the future of his position, rapper/executive Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter announced today (December 24) that he will be stepping down from his job as Def Jam’s president when his contract expires at the end of 2007. Music industry website Hits Daily Double reports that, although he will no longer oversee the label, he will remain a Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam recording artist. While rumors have circulated over the last few years about him joining former colleagues Lyor Cohen or Rick Rubin at the Warner Music Group or Columbia Records, respectively, no details were released about Jay taking on a new executive position in the future.
While a far cry from his earlier, more brutal works like Videodrome and Dead Ringers, David Cronenberg’s continued evolution in style is still worth watching.
“Nominated for three Golden Globes, including Best Picture - Drama, Eastern Promises is a violent crime thriller starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. In this well-acted crime story, Anna (Watts) is a midwife at a London hospital who delivers a baby where the teenage mother dies during childbirth. The mother leaves behind a diary, and Anna uses it to try to find the baby’s relatives.”
Other Notable Releases: Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It’s a terrible week for DVDs.
Not sure what the theaters are for each city, but I know Minneapolis’ for sure. If you’re living in one of the others, you’ll have to dig around.

I thought I’d take a page from Brooklynvegan and instead of listing my favorite movies or records this year, I’d just make a list of all the things I loved this year. Here it is in alphabetical order.
Against Me! - New Wave
I have been a fan of Against Me! Since Reinventing Axl Rose came out and I think New Wave is their best record to date. Despite what all the haters are saying, Against Me! Is one of those bands that get better and better with each release. This is the best punk rock record since Green Day’s American Idiot.
Against Me! - Thrash Unreal (acoustic)
Dr. Steve Brule on Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job
The best sketch comedy character since… maybe ever. Explaining why this character is so great doesn’t even do it justice so just check out this clip of him from the show.
Gay Robot
The funniest show that will never be on TV. Here’s the full pilot.
Lost / The Sopranos
I put these in the same category because this is the year that I started watching both of these shows. When I heard that The Sopranos was airing their final episode I figured I should get caught up since that was all anybody was gonna be talking about. I watched all 86 episodes in a month finishing just in time for the series finale. I gotta say, the best way to watch that show is 3 or 4 episodes a night. So good. Lost was pretty much the same way. I try not to watch shows that every one of my friends love, because they never live up to the hype, but I finally caved with Lost. The ONLY way to watch Lost is 3 or 4 episodes at a time. I can’t even imagine having to wait a week to see what happens next.
Michael Cera
By far the best comedic actor working today. His performances in Superbad and Juno were the highlights of both movies and in the case of Juno pretty much the only thing I liked about it. However, the best thing he did this year was the web based show Clark and Michael which lasted only 10 episodes and, sadly, will probably never see a DVD release.
Michael Cera - Impossible is the Opposite of Possible (clip came out last December but who cares, it’s hilarious)
Pop Punk
This was the year I re-fell in love with pop punk. For a while I kinda gave up on it but there were so many great old school style pop punk bands that broke out this year that you couldn’t help but notice. My favorites being: Off With Their Heads, Dear Landlord, The ERGS!, HiFi Handgrenades and The Methadones. They All put out great releases this year.
The Ryan Adams Blue Cave Shows
I saw him at the Cedar Cultural Center earlier this year and was blown away. The few times before when he played Minneapolis he was pretty hit and miss but this was simply amazing. Thanks to the website ryanadamsarchive.com I was able to get a flawless soundboard recording of not only that show but all the other shows on his acoustic blue cave tour. Adams is great on record but to really get the full experience you need to hear a live show.
Jon Glaseras Johnny Ding-Dong(so underrated but my favorite comedian working today)
Tegan And Sara - The Con
This is a record that I’ve only gotten into very recently even though it came out in July. I had heard bits and pieces of their previous albums but was never that impressed with them so I pretty much wrote The Con off when it came out. Then, about a month ago, my friend Emily was DJ’ing with me at The Uptown bar and she played “Back in your Head. ” I thought it was really good but still wasn’t sold on them. A few weeks later we were going record shopping and she had the cd playing in her car and I fell in love. I downloaded it as soon as I got home and haven’t been able to stop listening to it since.
Tegan And Sara - “Back In Your Head” (from the LP The Con)
This low-budget indie horror film has been getting love from everyone ever since this past Sundance Film Festival, and it’s all set to be released February 22.
“It’s New Year’s Eve in the city of Terminus and chaos is this year’s resolution. All forms of communication have been jammed by an enigmatic signal that preys on the fears and desires of everyone in the city. Told in three parts from three unique perspectives by three visionary directors, The Signal is a horrific journey towards discovering that the most brutal monster might actually be within all of us.”
The Howard Stern Show is on Christmas vacation right now, so Sirius Radio is playing “The History of Howard Stern.” It contains interviews from people who have known Howard throughout his life and clips of his previous radio shows. Those that have Sirius radio know where to tune in. Here is a run down of what is covered in the episodes.
Stream:M83 - “Couleurs”
(from Saturdays = Youth LP, due out April 2008)
M83’s last two records were groundbreaking. I have high hopes for his new record. After listening to this new track Stereogum posted, so far I haven’t been let down.
It is being reported that both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report will be returning to the air on January 7th. No other information was given.
UPDATE: Colbert and Stewart released a joint statement explaining the return: “We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence.”
The WGA also issued a statement saying: “Comedy Central forcing Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert back on the air will not give the viewers the quality shows they’ve come to expect. The only way to get the writing staffs back on the job is for the AMPTP companies to come back to the table prepared to negotiate a fair deal with the Writers Guild.”
Trendspotting with Demetri Martin (from The Daily Show)
A French record store has leaked the new Metallica record. Thanks France! This is the best gift you've given us since the Statue of Liberty. 3 days ago
